Press Release
Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Rino Island
January 22, 2025

Today, as Minister of Internal Affairs, I am compelled to inform the people of Rino Island about the resolution adopted on October 18 by the Council for the Defense of the Revolution, which has determined the removal of former President Anastasio López. This decision, made in strict compliance with our Constitution and in order to safeguard the stability of our nation, is based on the clear grounds stipulated in Article 105 of our Magna Carta, and it was a necessary step to restore constitutional and democratic order in the country.

The removal of López was based on three serious grounds that were demonstrated with compelling evidence during his tenure:

Grave compromise of the honor and security of the State:
During his time in office, former President López failed to fulfill his essential responsibilities, such as appointing key officials in the state institutions. Furthermore, he repeatedly refused to convene the Grand Senate, which paralyzed the functioning of one of our most fundamental institutions. This dereliction of his duties directly compromised the normal functioning of the State and the security of our nation.

Grave violation of the Constitution:
López also engaged in blatant non-compliance with the laws by failing to publish the norms approved by the Grand Senate, which represented a direct violation of our Constitution. In his absence, the Grand Senate met only partially, with only Foreign Minister Arturo Loretti present, a situation that prevented the execution of fundamental laws and caused a severe disruption of national harmony. López’s inability to carry out his duties and his refusal to acknowledge the state of emergency he had previously declared further exacerbated the political crisis.

Absolute inability to exercise the office:
Finally, the removal was justified by the manifest mental and health incapacity of former President López to continue in office. Reports presented by various sectors of the government and filed before the courts showed that the former president acted without the necessary faculties to make coherent and responsible decisions. The series of actions and decrees from the government, often driven by erratic and overwhelmed judgment, was sufficient for an assessment of his state to be made and his removal to be decided.

During his intervention at the Council’s session, former President López not only denied the accusations against him but also resorted to an unfounded conspiratorial narrative, accusing his opponents of being involved in a supposed masonic-zionist plot. He labeled the senators requesting his removal as counterrevolutionaries and blamed them for the institutional blockages that he himself had caused with his inaction.

Such accusations, baseless and founded on unfounded theories, are a clear attempt to delegitimize those who questioned him and to divert attention from the concrete facts that led to his removal. Instead of assuming responsibility for his inability to govern, López preferred to launch serious slanders, positioning himself as a victim of an international conspiracy.

In an attempt to cling to power, López proposed extremely dangerous measures, such as dissolving the Grand Senate and declaring a state of assembly, which would have granted him full legislative and executive powers temporarily. Such a proposal would not only have deeply altered the constitutional order but would have opened the doors to an authoritarian regime that would have concentrated absolute power in the hands of a single individual. Additionally, he suggested the dissolution of all opposition political parties, accusing them of being "seditious Zionist factions", highlighting the dangerous and undemocratic nature of his proposal.

It is important to note that such suggestions are not only incompatible with the Constitution but also go against the fundamental principles of freedom, pluralism, and democracy in our nation.

The decision of the Council for the Defense of the Revolution to remove Anastasio López was a necessary measure to restore institutional order and ensure that the principles of our Constitution are respected. The removal of the former president should not be seen as an attack on his person, but as a legitimate act in defense of the stability and well-being of Rino Island.

Since the designation of the new president, Arturo Loretti, the country's institutions have been immediately convened to resume the normal functioning of the Grand Senate, strengthen the execution of approved laws, and ensure compliance with constitutional norms. López’s proposals have been categorically rejected, and the country is moving toward the restoration of order and justice.

As an absurd and unjustified act of retaliation, former President Anastasio López decided to sell the official state website, a property that was registered in his name and had been financed with his own resources. In an act of complete irresponsibility, López claimed that, if expelled from office, he would continue to control the domain to ensure that the new authorities could not access it. This behavior is comparable to that of a spoiled child who, upon losing a game, takes the ball away to prevent others from playing. This type of attitude not only demonstrates the former president's low political maturity, but also reflects his total disregard for the interests and well-being of the nation, seeking, even through childish methods, to create unnecessary obstacles for the proper functioning of the government.

The delay in the official communication of this decision, which has taken place over the last three months, is due to the internal difficulties generated by the institutional crisis caused by the actions of former President López. During this time, we have faced a complex restructuring within the state institutions, with the urgent need to reincorporate those officials and members of the government who, due to the blatant actions and blockages promoted by the former president, had distanced themselves or had been forced to cease their activities. These obstacles not only delayed administrative processes but also required additional effort to restore trust and operability within the government structures. The recovery of institutional normality has been our priority, and this process has been essential to ensure the country’s stability and respect for our Constitution.

As Minister of Internal Affairs, I am committed to continuing to work toward strengthening our institutions, respecting the fundamental rights of citizens, and promoting national unity so that we may continue building a prosperous and stable future for all Rinolandese.
